Channelling some of the worst of George Bush.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a reductio-based evaluation of an argument or position.

That approach does, however, become problematic when it involves (as has become all the rage on the right, lately) obvious non-sequiturs and the assumption of a binary false dilemma.

"With us or against us" is simplistic, populist idiocy, regardless of the form it takes. An inability to distinguish between it and better premised reductio only adds to the problem.
