Local lawyers and legal experts pan Wall-cheerled limiting of judicial sentencing discretion.

"Local lawyers and legal experts say a new law to ban two-for-one credit for time served in remand has more to do with politics than justice."

...Wall's Sask. Party, play politics? Surely not! Why, next people might be suggesting that his zeal to ignore expert opinions on needle exchange or his own public consultations on nuclear power also suggests "playing politics".

Nice base you've got chained to your ankle there, Mr. Wall.

In fairness, the law criticized in the article is a federal one pushed by the Harper Cons. But the Wall government doesn't escape some responsibility for cheerleading for it - which is even more a matter of pure politics since it wasn't the province's decision to make.

You're right. My post title isn't accurate and needs editing. Thanks for the catch!

Right. Because John Whyte, a former NDP Minister of Justice, and a defense lawyer, don't have any kind of ulterior motive in maintaining the 2/1 credit whatsoever. Nope, don't see it...
