Counterexamples to Evolution

"It only takes one counterexample. Number one in the list -- beautiful autumn foliage -- is enough. The foliage existed before man does, and beauty does not help the trees in the slightest. The theory of evolution is confounded by the beauty, and the best it can say is it happened by chance. But such beauty does not happen by chance"

I don't see how this is a counter example to evolution. But I can think of at least one "natural selection" mechanism whereby beauty helps the trees --- the more beautiful you are, the less likely you are to be chopped down.

How do you know that beauty does not happen by chance? What makes you so sure? Why shouldn't beauty happen by chance? Isn't it more divine that beauty can happen by chance than it cannot?

Aside from anything else, as they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

This is like saying that a shiny chrome bumper on the front of a semitrailer truck means that the engine under the hood doesn't exist....

Sheesh.
