To Mr. Garth Turner regarding Examiner.com reference clarification...

Since inquiring minds may want to know:
"Dear Mr. Turner

Since it is usually customary to seek an individual's permission before citing them as a professional reference, I'm writing to you to seek clarification about your seeming endorsement of Examiner.com writer and "Nexus of Assholery" blogger Patrick Ross. Mr. Ross' bio at The Examiner cites a "Garth Turner" specifically (http://www.examiner.com/edmonton-conservative-in-calgary/patrick-ross).

As someone who undoubtedly takes his political and blogging reputation seriously, could you please confirm whether or not you do consider the individual whose blogging career began with pieces like "Welcome, Fuckers" (nexusofassholery.blogspot.com/2004/11/welcome-fuckers.html) and which has culminated in apparent legal defamation action (http://drdawgsblawg.ca/2010/11/great-day-another-mudfish-beached.shtml) as "one of the top bloggers and opinion makers in Western Canada"?

Your clarification on this matter is greatly anticipated.

Sincerely,

Audrey II, EnormousThrivingPlants.blogspot.com"

I'd be interested to see GT's response (if any) as when I read that ("one of the top bloggers and opinion makers in Western Canada") a few days ago, I wondered about it as well.

OTHER - I like your letter to Assange and although I can't speak for him, imagine that his response might include something like "all the more reason for Wikileaks" and a post script of "Ezra who"

Audrey:

Then if you can't find it, it must not exist. You sure took a lot of words to say that.

Regards,
Garth

If appeal to succinctness is what you are going for, I'm quite happy to provide a one word answer as to whether nor not I have ever endorsed Mr. Ross as "one of the top bloggers and opinion makers in Western Canada".

Can you, or is the Oliver North song-and-dance the best we can expect?

This is what I was able to ascertain--

Garth wrote a blog post called 'Alberta & Me'
in which he (Garth) states the following--

"You might be interested in what some leading bloggers and opinion-makers in the West, specifically Alberta, are saying at the moment about my last posting. It’s always instructive in politics to do so. BTW, you will note in the Calgary Herald editorial published Tuesday, “The gall of Garth” that the paper embellished a quote of mine, and added words that I did not write. My response is below. — Garth"

After which he quotes from a few bloggers--Right On Course, Werner Patels, Rjjado, and yes, the now-imfamous Patrick Ross.

Garth also reprints the original article from the Calgary Herald that was in response to his original blog post, and his reply to same...

So someone writing Patricks bio at the Examiner (I don't know who actually wrote it, though I can make a fairly educated guess), lifted those words, "You might be interested in what some leading bloggers and opinion-makers in the West, specifically Alberta, are saying at the moment about my last posting "

Garth did write it--is there in b/w (or lit/unlit pixels--whatever) but, my humble opinion, was taken a little out of context--Garth did not state that Patrick is "one of the top bloggers and opinion makers in Western Canada".

Garth just reposted bloggers that agreed with his original blog post.

The fact that someone (again, not stated who) associated with Mr. Ross took something someone else wrote out of context in order to inflate Patricks ego??

Quelle surprised.

Nice find, Sparky!

I wonder if the powers that be at the Edmonton Examiner are aware?

Actually, a thorough read of that particular blog post, we can almost surmise that the "what some leading bloggers and opinion-makers in the West, specifically Alberta, are saying at the moment about my last posting" is tongue-in-cheek--Garth is reposting 'rightie' bloggers who got in a tizzy over his original blog post...
So again, Patrick, or his bio-writer, took it out of context.
It'd be like me writing somewhere, "The intellectually superior Patrick Ross said..." and having Patrick actually believe that I thought he was intellectually superior.
I do hope this Examiner thing actually goes somewhere. It's one thing for Patrick (or bio writer) to take that quote and spin it in a 'private' blog post--"See, even Garth Turner thinks I is smart!!", but a "bona-fide" news source accepting that attribution out of context?? Well, that's altogether a different animal.
Unless, all the above said, Garth actually thinks Patrick is a "leading blogger and opinion-maker"
In which case--seriously Garth, wake up and smell the 85,000 bucks Patrick is out-of-pocket...
