Maurice Vellacott don't understand the Charter.

Like so many So-Cons, Mr. Vellacott either doesn't grasp the difference between right to religious belief and right to employment, or finds it convenient to pretend he doesn't.

It's nice to see Saskatchewan's Court of Appeal upholding the only real tenable interpretation of the charter's non-discrimination clause, and understanding what Mr. Vellacott does not: Christians aren't the only people who have rights.

The point that even supporters of the decision have missed is that the office of marriage commissioner was not created to be merely religiously neutral. It was created to be deliberately non-religious. There are restrictions that prevent a marriage commissioner from conducting the marriage in a way that makes it appear to be a religious ceremony. There are to be no religious tests or restrictions, period.

I did not know that, Malcolm!

If I haven't said this before, I feel like I should: you always post informative & relevant replies, and I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the kind words, LS!

I noticed from your profile that you just recently joined Blogger. You may or may not be aware that there's another "Liberal Supporter" on blogger whose been a longtime commenter on progressive blogs and who also authors one or two of his(?) own.

If you're a different person than the above individual, you might want to consider changing your handle, as there are some commenters out there who assume the handles of others to engage in dishonest sockpuppetry, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to have your name associated with that kind of sick nonsense. ;)
